Helping Mums get back to work

It can be hard for Mums to get back to work after having had a child, whether they have supportive partners or not. The cost of childcare can sometimes make it uneconomic and some may worry that their skills are out of date. I would like to see childcare tax allowable and support given to help bridge the skills gap. Families will gain and so will the Guernsey economy.

It is especially hard for those Mums who have taken time out to bring their children up until they start school, or those who have waited until they reach secondary school. New technology, laws and regulations can make those with excellent core skills feel nervous about being able to step back into the workplace. I would like to see help given in terms of training and development.

It must be better to get local people back to work than have to bring in more people to fill the skills gap.
